Parkinson’s disease

Prevalence and causes

Parkinson’s disease is considered the second most common neurodegenerative disorder after Alzheimer’s.

The genetic predisposition is 5-10%

PD is one of the most common disorders, affecting 1-2 in 1,000 people.

This prevalence increases with age.In industrialized countries, the prevalence in the population oscillates between 0.3% and 1% in subjects over 60 years of age, and reaches 3% in those over 80 years of age.

The number of PD patients is expected to double by 2030.

MORBIDITY: According to the NECIDES (Neurological Disorders in Central Spain) study, it was observed that only 14.6% of patients with PD established the disease as the cause of death.

Solution

A therapeutic intervention that could prevent the misfolding of αSyn and its oligomerization into toxic species may reduce neurodegeneration, neuroinflammation and the consequent disease propagation.
